The Roles We Play

Recently, I have been playing around with different ideas to express myself through a 3-D method. I am interested in how society views women and which roles women are expected to maintain. Last semester I took a series of photos that experimented with this concept; however, now I have decided to use Barbies to experiment with this idea. Each Barbie is dressed in a different women’s role. This project toys with the idea of past and present of women’s roles, as well as with containment. As of now, I have created five different Barbies, but I am looking to create several to fill a shelving unit. Below are a few images I shot last semester, as well as the Barbie collection I am currently working on.
